How Alastair describes this role:

I’m hiring a product design lead, located in NYC. Help me build up the design practice for Treasury Services at BNY*
*Bank of New York… the one Alexander Hamilton founded. Singing songs from the musical not required for applicants.

👉 Questions you might have in the order in which I think you’re thinking of them:

  • In-office: 3 days per week**
  • Location: 240 Greenwich St. (Near World Trade – I’ll show you my favorite coffee places near by)
  • Early stages of building a robust design team. You will HIGHLY influence the quality of products we ship through your work and craft. You will help set the tone for an open, helpful, and creative design culture.

👉 A couple high-level callouts

  • Someone that loves and has experience solving complex workflows – for now these are primarily high-density web applications with a secondary use case being responsive mobile.
  • Shares my passion for elegant design, ESPECIALLY for sophisticated applications. Finance needs GREAT design, and I’m committed to finding places where design can have a MASSIVE impact on products that SHIP (not just hang out in Figma files while we all pontificate in meetings)
  • SOME previous experience in a regulated space will probably be helpful. (So your soul isn’t crushed when we pontificate in meetings)
  • Portfolio. Portfolio. Portfolio. I love stickies too….but… customers will be engaging with your thoughtful designs executed well. I really want to see good end designs.

**I’m happy to talk endlessly about the theoretical pros and cons of coming into an office, especially as designers who value focused work. This is a strict policy though, something we will have to work within. For now, I’m looking forward to connecting more with more designers in person.
